Description

Bangladesh and Japan have strong, time-tested and friendly bilateral relations. Both countries have developed a comprehensive partnership over the last two decades based on mutual trust and interests. As a development partner, Japan has come forward to support Bangladesh through infrastructural development, trade cooperation, technological capability, and investment opportunities. Japan has been the largest bilateral donor to Bangladesh over the past two decades. Japan features prominently in the foreign policy of Bangladesh. Both countries have been working to constantly expand bilateral relations of an economic, political, strategic, and social nature. Besides, Bangladesh and Japan have common perceptions and positions on a host of regional and global issues. The visit of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Japan in May 2014 and the subsequent visit by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Bangladesh in the same year set a new level of bilateral relations between the two countries.
